Discover Advanced French Manufacturing Technologies in Total Production Plants --- Total China opens plants during the French Innovation Festival
Nov. 4, 2014, Suzhou and Tianjin — — On the occasion of the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between France and China, Total China opened its Hutchinson Industry Rubber Product Suzhou site on Nov. 4 and Tianjin Lubricant Blending Plant on Nov. 6. Near 100 college students from Beijing, Tianjin, Shanghai and Suzhou, as well as Chinese and French media friends visited the two plants and had an in-depth discovery of the advanced manufacturing process and scientific management system of Total in Petrochemicals industry.
Hutchinson is a world-renowned brand under Total Specialty Chemical businesses. The company develops products made from rubber processing – including sealing systems, insulation, fluid transfer systems, anti-vibration and transmission mobility – for the automotive, railway and other industries. With industrial operations in Suzhou and Wuhan, Hutchinson has served China since 1995.
“Hutchinson has more than 160 years history, and its attachment to China dates back to over 90 years ago when a large number of early Chinese revolutionaries, such as Deng Xiaoping, once worked in Hutchinson Rubber Plant in Montargis, France under a work-study program. We hope Hutchinson could enhance Sino-France economic exchange continuously and cultivate more Chinese local chemical talents”, said Frederic le Du, General Manager of Hutchinson Industry Rubber Product (Suzhou) Co., Ltd., to the visiting delegation.
Total Tianjin Lubricant Blending Plant is wholly owned and operated by Total (Tianjin) Manufacturing Co. Ltd (TTM). The plant produce a full range of lubricant products with a designed maximum capacity of 200,000 metric tons per. It has been in operation as of June 2013, marketing its products to Northeast, Northern and Western China. The plant also brings onstream Total’s unique range of fuel-economy lubricant product what will help reduce fuel consumption for vehicles and heavy equipment.
During the site visit in TTM, Plant Manager Grant Zhao said: “TTM is a new state-of-the-art plant, designed according to the most rigorous international quality standards in both equipment and technology. The plant is manufacturing diversified lubricant products for the car and motorcycle consumers, industrial and OEM markets.”
“This is a real impressive and unforgettable site visit experience!” a student from Tsinghua University remarked, “Usually, France impressed us with its achievements in art and literature. However, by visiting these advanced French manufacturing plants, we have been given an insight into the achievements of France in industrial science and technology, which provides more useful information for our future selection on career development”.
To mark the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between France and China, France –China Committee launched a campaign French Innovation Festival “Si français, si innovant”. The Innovation Festival’s goal is to promote innovations developed by French companies in China to their stakeholders in China, highlight past successes and future opportunities. These achievements contribute to help China and France to meet the challenges in development, particularly in key areas such as urban sustainable development, energy, communications, industry, medical health, food and agriculture, information technology, service and life style. As one of the main activities of the innovation festival, “Open Day Visits” invites the Chinese public to discover French technology by visiting the Chinese branches of French enterprises in their “Open Days”.
